It is declared to be the public policy of
the City of Haven that public records shall be open for inspection by
any person unless otherwise provided by the Kansas Open Records Act, KSA
45-215 through 45-223, and the Act shall be liberally construed and
applied to promote such policy.
Requests for inspection or copies of
public records shall be made in writing to the custodian of the records
and shall include the name and address of the person making the request
and a description of the records to be inspected or copied. Such
requests will be acted upon as soon as possible by the custodian but no
later than the third business day. Proof of
identity may be required. The custodian
for City of Haven governmental records is the City Clerk. The
custodian for Municipal Court records is the Police Chief who serves as
Municipal Court Clerk.
The fee for furnishing access to records
will be 10 cents per copy plus the cost of staff time required to make
the information available in accordance with KSA 45-219. This
fee may be required in advance at the discretion of the custodian of
records. No person shall remove original
documents from the office.
Records housed in the City Office are open
to inspection during business hours, 8:00 am to Noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00
pm Monday through Friday. Municipal Court
records housed in the Police Station are available by appointment
between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Public Records containing confidential
personal information such as dates of birth and Social Security numbers
are not available for inspection but may be requested and will be
furnished, in accordance with the Kansas Open Records Act, with the
confidential information obliterated.
The Freedom of Information Officer for the
City of Haven is City Clerk, Cheryl Savaiano. She
is available during business hours at the City Office, 120 S. Kansas
Avenue, (620) 465-3618, to answer questions and provide assistance in
furnishing access to public records of the City of Haven.
